Play Sign press release
“BOYS AND GIRLS COME
OUT TO PLAY, COME AND LEARN TO SIGN TODAY!”
Children attending Carousel Playgroup on Foundry Road in Stamford,
Lincolnshire, have been learning to communicate in a totally different
way…
…by “switching off” their
voices and using their hands!!!.
Over the last six weeks the
children have been visited by local Sign Language Tutor, Garry
Slack, who has taught them all about the language used by many
Deaf people, together with the signs for different topics such
as “Animals”, “Colours” and “Numbers” including
songs and nursery rhymes.
Each session has been great fun with the children asking lots of
questions about sign language. Many of the children have even taken
their newly acquired skill home and started teaching Mum and Dad
how to sign!
The Staff at the Playgroup have eagerly joined in
with each session and are able to practise the signs that they have
learnt in their day to day work with the children.
Both the Tutor and the Staff were amazed at how quickly
the children were able to learn the signs for this rich and fascinating
language.
After the success of the recent
Sign Language workshops for babies and their parents, Garry Slack,
the tutor, is taking bookings for more sessions of baby and parent
communication called “Happy
Hands”.
The fun, informal workshops are aimed at teaching
parents with babies aged from 6 to 12 months how to communicate using
sign language.
Parents, (and children!), will learn how to communicate
using signs, songs and nursery rhymes.
